Manuela Vanegas has signed a new long-term contract with Brighton & Hove Albion Women, the club confirmed on Monday. The 25-year-old Colombian defender joined the Seagulls in the summer of 2025 and has since become a regular fixture in Arturo Ruiz's side.

Vanegas brings extensive international experience, having earned 57 senior caps for Colombia and scoring eight goals. She has represented her country at both the World Cup and the Olympics. Before moving to England, she played in Spain's top flight for Espanyol and Real Sociedad, following earlier spells with clubs in her homeland.

Impact at the club

Since her arrival, Vanegas has made 27 appearances in all competitions. She was a key part of the squad that reached the Adobe Women's FA Cup final at Wembley last season. Her impact was highlighted by a key goal in the semi-final, where she sparked a comeback from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at Liverpool. The contract news follows a 5-1 league victory over Charlton Athletic at the Amex on Friday, a result that moved the team's recent form to one win, one draw and three defeats from their last five outings.

Head coach Arturo Ruiz welcomed the news. "This is great news for Manuela and for Brighton," Ruiz said, praising the defender's work-rate, commitment, and willingness to improve.

Vanegas will be available for selection as Brighton prepare for their next Women's Super League fixture, an away match against Manchester City at The Joie Stadium on Sunday 18 October.
